Extreme modelling competition ▪️ MGM CONTROLLERS

Extreme modelling competition

July 2015. Lake Geneva in Switzerland. 7 countries, 16 universities, 150 students. These are just the basic stats for HYDROCONTEST 2015. The event had the simple motto of "Carry more, faster and use less energy."

Teams of students from across the world had several months to work on their solutions for the event. Their goal was to design and build a boat measuring a maximum of 2.2 x 2 x 5 x 2 metres and compete in 3 disciplines. That is the essence of HYDROCONTEST .The first challenge posed to the competitors was to transport a heavy load, followed by a boat race with a small load and finally an endurance race. The transport task was to simulate a cargo load of 200 kg. The lightweight race used a much smaller load of only 20 kg. Rankings were developed based on these two rounds using qualification times and pairs were then put in elimination rounds. The final challenge was an endurance round, where boats with a 20 kg load had to complete the as many laps as possible around a three hundred metre course without recharging their [url:/race-boats/li-pol-battery-packs-1 batteries]. The boat sailing the longest distance was the winner. It was completely up to the teams to decide whether they develop two separate types of boats for these specific tasks or whether they create a single, universal model to compete in all three challenges. In order to even the playing field and to place more emphasis on the engineering skills of the teams, all of them used the same Watt & Sea motors with MGM COMPRO [url:/race-boats/speed-controllers-escs-1 Brushless speed controllers].We also owe you a summary of the results. The winners in the individual categories were:
  • Polytechnic University in Paris
  • Federal Polytechnic University in Lausanne
  • University of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg
  • It is noteworthy that Polytechnic University in Paris took home one gold medal and two silver ones, which is a tremendous achievement. We are already looking forward to the next year's edition where our [url:/race-boats/speed-controllers-escs-1 Speed Controllers for Powerboats] will once again be used. We are confident that the number of potential participants in the competition will continue to grow. We are already seeing interest from EPFL and HEG Arc in Switzerland and the university from Brittany.Check out the video from this event!
